Stability and two new features

December 22nd, 2007

FilesTube gets attention of more users every day and some of you may have noticed problems with accessing our services lately. Because of that we were forced to expand the hardware infrastructure behind FilesTube. This step, planned for some time, was prepared to ensure as little disruption to our services as possible. Now we are ready to handle the increasing amount of traffic we get every day and ensure the availability of FilesTube to our users.

And of course, we wouldn’t be ourselves if we didn’t develop some new exciting FilesTube features. Advanced search is something many of you may have waited for. Now searching for files from a given file-sharing site or with a given extension and size won’t be a problem anymore. The second feature is for those of you who would like to bring FilesTube Search to your websites. FilesTube XML API is a simple solution embracing the power of FilesTube search engine. Some examples will help you to easily get started with our API. Note that this functionality is in the phase of testing and could be far from perfect. Please use our contact form to report any problems you may encounter.

New engine and more features

October 30th, 2007

FilesTube

Hi,

After few weeks of endless coding and testing, we are excited to present the completely redesigned core of FilesTube search engine.

Despite our efforts, the site suffered a serious performance hit due to incapability of handling vast amount of data by Zend’s PHP framework Lucene implementation (Zend_Search_Lucene). For this and many other reasons we have decided to adopt an alternative solution - Sphinx full-text search engine. We are very happy with the effects and possibilities we have gained by choosing Sphinx. Greatly decreased search latency is the most visible advantage, in particular for FilesTube.com users.

Although we had our hands full with core development, we managed to design and implement a brand new feature. MP3 lists allow grouping and managing of your mp3 search results. MP3 lists can be shared with friends (just like Download lists). Additionally, you can play your MP3 lists directly from FilesTube.com using our slick player. And that’s not all! The player can be embedded at or linked from any third-party site. This enables you to present your favorite music at your blog, homepage or any other place you can think of. Below you can see the player at work.

Organized downloads

October 13th, 2007

Hello,

We are happy to announce the birth of two new FilesTube features.

1. Download lists.

Organize your search results. You can easily group download links in manageable lists. This could be very handy if you like to save your search results for later retrieval. You can also share your download lists with friends.

2. Download history.

Keep track of your downloads. By default every file downloaded with FilesTube is shown in your download history. This enables you for example to quickly find links of downloaded files for ratings and comments.

Some improvements were made in other parts of the site including complete redesign of tags.

FilesTube team

Improvements in link submission

September 27th, 2007

Hi,

Just a quick note about changes in link submission. Now you can submit each of your links with appropriate password for extracting protected files (if needed).

Currently the system accepts links from the following file sharing sites:

  • rapidshare.com
  • megaupload.com
  • megashares.com
  • yousendit.com
  • savefile.com
  • filefront.com
  • badongo.com

Just as before, you can also submit your RapidShare user ID.

If you know or own a site with tones of useful links, please share it with us. We’ll be happy to crawl it :)

Yet another update

September 11th, 2007

Hello FilesTubers,

During the last couple of weeks we were developing some enhancements to your favorite file search engine.

1. User accounts.

Now you can create a FilesTube account, tag and comment your search results. There are many more personalization features to come so be sure to grab your accounts while they’re hot.

2. Detailed file information.

Every search result has its own page with file details, user ratings, comments and more.

3. Password search.

Tired of password protected archives? Now you can perform an automated search for passwords directly from every file’s detail page!

4. FilesTube navigation bar.

After navigation to file download locations FilesTube options are still available, enabling you to easily rate and report files during and after downloading.

Some enhancements and fixes were also made to FilesTube core, so expect more accurate searches.

FilesTube team

New functions

September 4th, 2007

At first, we would like to thank all the people who sent us many
interesting suggestions. Some of them have been already implemented to
the system.

1. Submitting more than one link at once.

Now you can submit up to 100 links at once to FilesTube. All you
have to do is enter the following site http://www.filestube.com/submit.html

2. Sorting out the results.

Now, apart from sorting out the results by the extension, you can do it
by the size of file or by the date the file was added.

3. Reporting passworded files.

If you have downloaded a file as rar or zip archive and it needs
password to be opened, report it to us. The file will be marked as
passworded and our moderator will try to find the password.

4. Deleting broken links quicker.

Since now each time you report us a broken link it will be
checked by our robot and deleted.

Right now we are working on many new functions, that will
be presented to you very soon.
